What is Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression?

The Chattanooga Distractive Traction System (DTS) used in our clinic represents the latest development in computerized cyclic decompressive therapy for injured or damaged lumbar and cervical discs.

Because discs have been shown to be a predominate site of pain, treating the discs as directly as possible makes sense. The DTS system is a comprehensive program of the newest traction techniques along with targeted "core" stabilization exercises. DTS therapy creates a controlled unloading of the vertebra to decrease disc pressure thus increasing blood and nutrient exchange. This exchange of fluids is something the disc desperately needs to help it from the inside out. The specially designed decompression table slowly and gently separates to releive the pressure on spinal nerves and in many cases suctions displaced disc material back into a more central, proper position away from sensitive tissues. Although is is hard to predict the future, it is our experience that most patients experience long-term relief or effective management of their pain when they complete the entire program of treatments.

What can I expect on my first visit?

The first thing a chiropractor will do is ask you about the health complaints about which you are chiefly concerned. The DC will also ask about your family history, dietary habits, other care you may have had (chiropractic, osteopathic, medical, etc.), your job, and other questions designed to help determine the nature of your illness and the best way to go about treating the problem.

A physical examination will be performed in accordance with your DC's clinical judgement, which may include x-rays, laboratory analysis and other diagnostic procedures. In addition, a careful spinal examination and analysis will be performed to detect any structural abnormalities which may be affecting or causing your condition. All of these elements are important components of your total health profile, and vital to the doctor of chiropractic in evaluating your problem.
